Bird of Paradise | Strelitzia Nicolai

Bird of Paradise | Strelitzia Nicolai

Meet Stella, your bold and unbothered Bird of Paradise. Named for Strelitzia, the genus she belongs to, she throws out huge paddle shaped leaves and barely asks for anything in return. Big drama, low maintenance, exactly what a statement plant should be.

Care: Easy

Bird of Paradise handles missed waterings and average rooms well once established, splitting new leaves as it settles in.

Light: Bright

Wants bright light with some direct sun to unfurl full sized leaves. Too little light means smaller, slower growth.

Watering: Moderate

Water once the top few centimetres of soil dry out, roughly weekly in summer and less in winter.

Toxicity: Toxic

Mildly toxic to cats, dogs, and people if chewed, causing mouth and stomach irritation.

Position: Floor

Both sizes here grow tall, wide paddle leaves that need real floor space to spread, not a tabletop footprint. Where it thrives: a bright corner of a living room, beside a large window, or an office reception with room to fan out.
