Dypsis Lutescens; Areca Palm

Height: 60cm

Nursey Pot Diameter: Ø17cm

About the Dypsis Lutescens

Dypsis lutescens brings breezy, golden-green energy to real rooms. Think fountain-like fronds, soft movement, and instant calm. Lulu likes bright, indirect light and partial shade; keep her a step back from glare. Water deeply, drain well, then keep the mix slightly moist—never soggy.

A quick leaf wipe keeps the glow; a gentle turn keeps the shape. We ship her straight from the nursery in a plastic grow pot, cushioned securely in a sturdy box so she lands fresh, healthy, and ready to settle. Big presence, low fuss—exactly the brief.

Did you know?

Areca palms clump naturally, sending up new canes from the base for fuller volume over time, and they’re pet-friendly to boot.

Why the living room?

This plant is perfect for the living room because it brings instant calm and tropical charm with minimal effort. Her soft, arching fronds make a striking statement, while so gently freshening the air you breathe. Pet friendly and people friendly, she’s ideal for stylish, lived-in spaces that need greenery. Low-maintenance, air-cleansing, and full of presence—Lulu was made for this room.

Position: Floor

Place Lulu as a statement Floor palm in a bright, indirect spot, a few metres back from harsh windows or behind sheer curtains. Give her room to fan out and avoid radiators, drafts, and blasting AC. A living room corner with filtered morning sun works beautifully. Pet-friendly and people-friendly, she softens lines, adds movement, and thrives where light is steady and gentle.

Growth Habit: Clumping

Soil: Well-Draining

Choose a well-draining, airy palm mix so Lulu’s roots stay oxygenated yet comfortably moist. Use premium potting soil boosted with chunky perlite, washed sand, and a touch of coco coir; a handful of fine bark helps structure. Avoid heavy, peat-laden blends and standing water. Let water flow through freely, then reset between drinks to keep growth lush and fronds supple all year.

Propagation: Division

Propagate Dypsis lutescens by DIVISION. In early spring, unpot the clump and gently separate offsets so each division has several canes and healthy roots. Pot into fresh, well-draining mix, firm lightly, and water to settle. Keep bright, indirect light, warm temperatures, and even moisture while recovering. Avoid stem cuttings—they fail. Seeds are possible but slow and best left to nurseries for propagation.

Bright, Indirect

Bright, indirect light suits Lulu; gentle morning sun is fine, harsh midday rays are not. Set her a few metres from windows or behind sheer curtains, rotate monthly for growth and graceful fronds.

High

Keep Lulu’s soil slightly moist—never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm dries, then drain. More in growing season, less in winter. Use room temperature water; empty saucers; steady moisture keeps fronds supple.

Green Thumb

Lulu prefers bright, indirect light, slightly moist soil, and steady humidity. Keep her from harsh sun, water deeply then drain, avoid drafts. Leaf wipes and rotation keep fronds elegant.

Medium

Lulu loves medium, steady humidity. Keep her away from heaters and blasting AC, avoid dry drafts. Group with plants, use a pebble tray, or mist in summer to keep fronds lush and supple.
