Ficus Lyrata; Fiddle Leaf Fig

Height: 100cm

Nursey Pot Diameter: Ø21cm

About the Ficus Lyrata

Ficus lyrata, a.k.a. the Fiddle-Leaf Fig, is pure presence. She comes from West Africa’s warm, humid forests and loves that filtered, tree-canopy vibe. Big, violin-shaped leaves. Glossy. Sculptural. Layla doesn’t just sit in a room, she defines it.

Bring her home and watch the space level up. She’s living architecture with wellness perks, quietly freshening the air while giving your décor a calm, confident focal point. Effortless statement, zero shout.

Care is simple, not sloppy. Bright, indirect light. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry—deep, not daily. Wipe those leaves so they catch the light. Use a peat-free, well-draining mix. Rotate her monthly for even growth, and keep drafts and radiators at arm’s length. She grows with intention, not speed—and that’s the charm.

Did you know?

In the wild, fiddle-leaf figs rely on tiny fig wasps to pollinate, which is why houseplants almost never fruit. No wasps indoors means Layla puts her energy into what we actually want: those oversized, photo-ready leaves.

Why the living room?

This plant is perfect for the living room because it brings instant drama and sculptural calm with minimal effort. Her bold, upright fiddle leaves make a very striking statement while subtly freshening the air you breathe. Though she isn’t safe for curious pets or children, she’s ideal for stylish, adult spaces. Low-fuss, air-cleansing, and full of presence—Layla was made for this room.

Position: Floor

Place Lyra as a statement Floor plant in a bright, indirect spot where morning sun is gentle and afternoons are filtered. Give her space to stretch upward and away from drafts, radiators, and blasting AC. A living room corner near a sheer-curtained window is perfect. Not pet friendly, so elevate style in adult spaces while she subtly freshens the air each day.

Growth Habit: Upright

Straight, strong stems that reach toward the ceiling.

Soil: Well-Draining

Lyra thrives in a well-draining mix that keeps roots airy and confident. Choose a premium potting soil boosted with chunky perlite and a little bark to speed drainage and prevent soggy feet. Avoid heavy, peat-laden blends that cling to water. Aim for moisture that resets between drinks: damp, never dense—so her upright, sculptural growth stays bold. Fresh, breathable soil keeps her happy.

Propagation: Stem Cuttings

Take a 10 cm cutting at a 45° angle with at least one node and a couple of leaves. Root in fresh potting mix, coco coir, or a water-filled glass; optional rooting hormone boosts success. Keep warm, bright, and humid, avoiding direct sun. Do not use leaf-only cuttings. Air-layering tall stems also works. Roots appear in weeks.

Bright, Indirect

She’s not too fussy, but she thrives in bright, indirect light. Keep her away from harsh afternoon sun that can scorch those leaves. A sunny room with sheer-filtered light keeps Lyra standing tall.

Moderate

Give Lyra moderate watering: let the top 5 cm dry, then water deeply and drain. Weekly sips in spring and summer; reduce in cooler months. Avoid soggy roots; use room-temperature water between waterings.

Green Thumb

Lyra’s a Green-thumb plant—slightly demanding but so worth it. Give her bright, indirect light, deep yet infrequent drinks, and room to grow, and she’ll reward you with bold, glossy leaves. Big impact and style—minimal stress.

Medium

Lyra likes her air comfortably moist—medium and steady. Keep her away from heaters and blasting AC. Group with plants or use a pebble tray. A daily spritz helps keep bold, glossy leaves thriving.
