About the Ficus Benjamina Danielle

The Ficus Benjamina, or Weeping Fig, hails from the tropical forests of Southeast Asia and Australia, where he stretches skyward beneath the humid canopy. With his gracefully arching branches and glossy green leaves, he brings elegant charm to any indoor space, making him a favourite for refined greenery lovers.

A beloved houseplant since the 1970s, this classic plant earned a permanent spot in stylish interiors thanks to his sculptural silhouette and adaptable nature. With his air purifying qualities and timeless appeal, he’s both a design centrepiece and wellness enhancer in one.

Today, Benjamin (as we fondly call him) remains a top pick for anyone wanting to bring a touch of the tropics indoors. He prefers bright, indirect light, moderate watering, and the occasional leaf wipe to keep him gleaming. Graceful, lush, yet blissfully rewarding, just how we like him.

Did you know?

Ficus Benjamina is the official tree of Bangkok, and fossil remains of his ancestors date back 30 million years!

Why the living room?

Benjamin is perfect for the living room, bringing timeless elegance and a tropical touch with his graceful arching form. His glossy leaves create a stunning focal point while quietly purifying the air you breathe. Though not safe for curious pets or little ones, he’s ideal for stylish, grown up spaces. Air cleansing, effortlessly elegant, and full of presence, Benjamin was made for this room.

Position: Floor

With his tall, tree like stature and elegantly arching branches, Benjamin is a natural floor dweller. Place him in a large pot and let him become the stunning focal point of any room. His lush canopy and sculptural silhouette bring instant sophistication, making him the perfect statement plant for living spaces, hallways, or any corner that craves a touch of green grandeur.

Growth Habit: Upright

Straight, strong stems that reach toward the ceiling.

Plant Care

Soil: Well-Draining

Benjamin thrives in a well draining potting mix that allows water to flow through freely without leaving his roots sitting in soggy soil. A standard premium mix with added perlite is ideal, opening up the soil for better airflow and reducing excess moisture retention. Good drainage is essential, as waterlogged conditions can quickly lead to root rot, which he really won’t appreciate.

Propagation: Stem Cuttings

The best way to propagate Benjamin is through stem cuttings taken in spring. Snip a healthy 10 to 15cm cutting just below a leaf node, remove the lower leaves, and dip the end in rooting hormone. Pop it into a moist mix of perlite and peat, keep it warm with bright, indirect light, and roots should develop within four to six weeks.

Straight from Netherlands

Getting our plants from nurseries in the Netherlands means you're getting top-quality greenery. The Dutch are world-famous for their expertise in growing healthy, vibrant plants—and thanks to their efficient systems, everything arrives fresh and full of life. It's a smart, sustainable choice that your home (and your plants) will thank you for.

Bright, Indirect

Benjamin loves a bright spot with plenty of diffuse light, happily soaking up gentle morning sun when it is available. Just shield him from harsh afternoon rays that can scorch his glossy leaves.

Moderate

Benjamin enjoys consistently moist soil, so give him a good drink when the top 5cm has dried out. That’s roughly once a week in warmer months, easing off as the cooler seasons arrive.

Green Thumb

Benjamin does ask for a little extra attention to truly thrive. Keep his conditions consistent, avoid sudden changes, and reward him with the right light and water, and he’ll flourish beautifully for you.

Medium

Benjamin thrives with a regular spritz to keep his tropical roots happy. Mist him daily or sit him on a pebble tray, and consider grouping him with fellow humidity lovers for best results.

Toxicity

Mildly Toxic: May cause adverse reactions if ingested in large quantities.
